The Hybrid Seat Project
We’re on a mission to create new category of home office chair.
One that truly supports you; for both work and life-outside-of-work.
Our brief is to create a seat that fully supports you when you're working and gets completely out of your way when you're not—so you always have the space to do you.
This page shows our solution to this brief. The images and videos below show the development of our working proof-of-concept prototype.
This prototype is the springboard for the launch of our new Personal Workspace Seat (PWS) we are currently developing, and plan to bring to market later this year.
Take home office chairs.
Most are designed either for work or for home life—rarely both. And the few that try to bridge the gap often end up clunky, overcomplicated, or simply the worst of both worlds.
There isn’t a home office seat built for a truly multi-use space—one that adapts seamlessly, without compromise.
Office chairs/Task chairs
Built for corporate offices—bulky, static, and designed for all-day sitting.
Ergonomic
Comfortable and supportive for sitting for long periods
They take up space
Big when you need them, bigger when you don’t.
They get in the way
A presence even when not in use.
They limit movement
Fixed designs restrict how you interact with your workspace.
They lack inspiration
Functional, but far from fitting a personal space.
Home office chairs
A compromise—office chairs trying to look like home furniture, but often losing out on both comfort and functionality.
Home Style
They look more personal and fit in better with the home
Not fully supportive
Lacks the ergonomic benefits of a true office chair.
Not truly space-friendly
Still takes up room without offering flexibility.
Neither here nor there
Not quite an office chair, not quite a home-friendly seat.
Dining chairs
They fit the home, but not your body—rigid and uncomfortable for long hours.
Minimal design
Less bulky design for minimal presence
No ergonomic support
Designed for eating, not working.
Hard and rigid
No flexibility for posture changes.
Uncomfortable for long hours
Sitting through a meal is one thing—working all day is another.
Stools
Compact and space-saving, but at the cost of proper support.
Compact & Practical
Can be easily moved out of the way
No back support
Fine for quick tasks, painful for deep work.
Awkward posture
Perching, leaning, or shifting constantly.
Designed for minimal use
Not built for focus or long work sessions
These limitations don’t just affect how your space looks—they shape how it feels and functions, ultimately impacting how you work, live, and play.
We believe there isn’t a seat that truly enhances both your experience of work and your life outside of it.
We're rethinking the home workspace seat—because you shouldn’t have to compromise between comfort, function, and space.
A Hybrid Seat is different from a typical fixed-form chair or stool—it has two distinct modes, each fully optimised for its different functions.
Being sat on - Fully supportive and ergonomic
Not being sat on - Out of the way, creating space
Its magic lies in its effortless transformation, powered by a clever mechanism and your own body weight—eliminating the need to compromise between one way or the other.
Mode 2: Not in-use (not being sat on)
Stand up, and the backrest lowers down into a compact standby mode, allowing it to be pushed completely under a desk out of the way, freeing up space for you to to use how you choose.
Hybrid Seat -
IP Protected Globally
Get the best of both worlds in one seat.
A full sized seat with backrest that supports you for working, and a seat that supports you by getting out of the way when you need space.
Finally, a seat that offers you the best of both worlds. Giving you greater flexibility and freedom, without having to compromise.

A home workspace is your space
A home workspace is different to other working spaces as its your space-whether it’s a dedicated office, a bedroom desk, or a garden studio, it's personal to you.
Your space is never just about work
It blends work, personal, and family life, shifting constantly between focus and relaxation. Making it ever-changing, multi-use, and uniquely valuable.
Your home workspace deserves better
When your home workspace works in multiple ways, why settle for a chair that only works one way?
A hybrid seat is the ultimate home workspace seat. Designed to be better for working and for not-working.
Better adapting to you and your space.
Without a high backrest in the way, you get full, unobstructed access to your desktop—anytime. No more constant shifting of your chair to access the surface. Just seamless flow without interruptions.
Most office chairs keep you stuck sitting—a transforming chair gives you more freedom to move around the desk. So standing or moving for work feels as effortless and intuitive as the chair itself.
Thanks to innovative responsive technology, the popup backrest is powered entirely by your weight. No switches or levers. Simple, seamless, and brilliantly fuss-free.
We created Neata to help people navigate the transitions between work, rest, and play—whether that means blending them more smoothly or keeping them separate when needed. By removing obstacles, we give people the freedom to shape their space their way, making every shift effortless. A better way. A Neata way.
For many, life isn’t neatly divided into ‘work’ and ‘life’—it’s all just life. Everything blends together, and we believe the key to improving it isn't just about finding balance, but creating seamless flow across it all.
We set out to solve a real problem—and we did. But we’re not stopping there. Now, we’re designing something even better.
